KATHLEEN CAPDESUÑER is an immigrant raised and Florida grown, Cuban-American director and producer working in theatre and film. They collaborate in English, Español y Spanglish.
Led by joy and integrity, Kathleen loves to direct and produce work that is written by living artists, community driven, and invites playful abandon. Kathleen is a fiercely generous collaborator who leads democratized modes of creation to decolonize the current artistic canon.
Kathleen is a Roundabout Directing Fellow, The Civilians R&D Group Director in Residence, Teatro LATEA Reading Series Artistic Producer, Manhattan Theatre Club John Alper Directing Fellow, Latinx Theatre Commons Steering Committee Member, The COOP Youth Advisory Board Member, The 24 Hour Plays: Nationals, McCarter Theatre Center Directing Apprenticeship alumna, and a Van Lier Directing Fellow at Repertorio Español.
She’s developed and directed work with: Roundabout Theatre Company, New York City Center, Atlantic Theatre Company, Repertorio Español, Yale University, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Noor Theatre, Columbia University, Teatro LATEA, Moxie Arts New York, McCarter Theatre Center, NYU, Dramatic Question Theatre, and internationally in the Fringe Festival circuit.
Kathleen is drawn to works that are written by and for women, exploring the complexities of the immigrant experience, dissecting class and ethnicity, and marrying epicness with intimacy. Their process is informed by the Spanish language, character driven improvisation, folklore, and magic. Kathleen’s work tends to be ambitious, multi-lingual, and the right mix of weird and heartful.
